It was Mr. C's birthday last week and on his birthday we got a very special delivery from Fisher Price/Imaginext. The lucky boy was sent the fab Arkham Asylum playset to review and tell us all what he thinks about it! He loves all things superhero based, so this is right up his street! The Imaginext DC Super Friends Arkham Asylum is part of the Imaginext range that enables your little superheroes to re-enact scenes from their favourite DC Super Friends adventures, it's perfect for some imaginative play and it is extremely well built. The set is available to buy from Smyths, it is suitable for ages 3+ and retails at £36.99.
The playset comes with a Batman figure so the fun can begin straight away and he fits through all of the doorways and it just the right size for play. He slots into the 2 power pads on the playset, one on the first floor and the other on the second floor, both of which perform different actions with the help of Batman of course.
The power pad on the top floor is used to activate the projectile launcher, the set comes wth 3 projectiles, load them into the launcher and get Batman to open the doors. You do this my turning him round to the side whilst he is stood in the power pad. The doors open and the launcher emerges, your child can then press the button on the launcher and the projectile shoots out, perfect for defeating enemies!
If you put Batman on the power pad on the middle floor and turn him he opens and closes the jail doors on the bottom and middle floors. The ideal place to lock away all of the baddies the children catch on their imaginative adventures. The whole set is well made and should withstand a bit of rough and tumble, all parts of the set are fixed apart from Batman, so no danger of losing any of the parts.
As I predicted Mr. C loved this playset, it is aimed at 3 years and up so he had no problem operating all the bits and pieces. It's a great size for small hands. It can be a bit tricky to get Batman into the top power pad as you have to slip his feet under the plinth, Mr C managed but a younger child may struggle and need help. Mr.C loved the projectile launcher and said its great for aiming at baddies! He already wants to extend his collection, he is adamant he wants more figures so he can create more stories!
He really enjoyed all the moving parts and loading Batman into the power pad to make things happen, it's a great cause and effect toy. He busied himself making a story about Batman defending his city and practising how he would capture his enemies! The Arkham Asylum gets a big thumbs up from both of us.
