We are familiar with the Bananagrams and already own the standard game, we were contacted and asked if we would like to take a look at My First Bananagrams. I thought they would be great for Mr C and Miss S to practice some spelling and reading.
Aimed at ages 4+, the early-learners version differs from the original family word game with colourful lower-case letters and double-sided tiles, designed to make it easier for mini-wordsmiths to race to complete their word grid.
I love the eye-catching green pouch that the letter tiles come in and I love how colourful the letter tiles are. It is designed to cater to a wide range of abilities amongst siblings and friends. It includes a collection of fun games, with 10 curriculum-based mini-games that are designed to become more challenging, as confidence and vocabulary grows.
The set included 80 single letter tiles, 30 combo letter tiles and an instructional booklet. The booklet contains 10 different way to play with the tiles. We opted for the traditional spelling type way. Each player has 15 single letter tiles. The object of the game is to be the first player to use up all of their tiles in the word grid. Once your little one has gained confidence you can the introduce the combo letter tiles, this makes more complicated spellings.
The other 9 options are split into preschooler, spell your name, ABCs and letter match. Early reader includes sound it out, word families and rhyme. Mr C really liked these early reader options as he is a confident reader. The reader section includes vowel power, diggity digraph and criss-cross, Mr C found these a little tricky but its good to have something to work towards.
Mr C and his cousin had lots of fun playing the word game, they were a bit cheeky and tried making up their own words though! It kept them busy on a wet afternoon last weekend and it's great that although they ae having fun it educational too. We love My First Bananagrams, they are perfect for honing Mr C's learning and priced at £14.99 they are a great price for some home learning.
Thanks For Reading
