What Was Inside July's Degustabox

It's time for another Degustabox delivery, it is my favourite time of the month and it was a good mix of things I haven't tried before. If you haven't heard of Degustabox it's a monthly subscription box priced at £12.99 that delivers 9-14 surprise products, many of the products are new to the market so you get to try them first. This month's box didn't follow a specific theme, although it had lots of drinks inside, perfect for the summer.
Crackers Drinks - £1.50 - This was pineapple, coconut & lime flavour and was an acquired taste, I didn't like it, the coconut was very overwhelming. It contains less than 90kcals per serving and provides 1 of your 5 a day.
Berrywhite Drinks - £1.39 - We got a lemon & ginger and a cranberry & guava, they were  both really refreshing, I would definitely buy both again.
Alo Drink - £2.45 - This went straight to my brother who is a massive fan of Alo drinks. I tried it a while ago and aloe drinks are definitely not for me.
Rejuvenation Water - £1.99 - This Spanish orange flavour drink was soo nice, I have actually been out and bought more since. It was so refreshing and the orange wasn't too strong.
Qcumber Drink - £1.25 - Another thumb down from me, I am just not a fan of vegetables in water, I hear people loving cucumber sliced water and I just can't do it. I don't know why this went straight to my brother.
Sarsons Balsamic Vinegar - £1.99 - This is a perfect cupboard staple, I add it to salad dressings, it's really versatile and can be used in lots of recipes.
Felix Gherkins - £2.15 - I was chuffed to see these in the box, I LOVE gherkins and haven't tried the Felix brand before. They had a lovely tang to them and I finished the jar in just 3 days!!
Itsu Seaweed Thins - £1.00 - These are great for anyone looking for a low-calorie snack, at only 2 calories per thin they're fab.
Seabrooks Crisp - £1.99 - Mr RTR was on these as soon as I finished taking the picture! He loves a good crisp and likes all these new flavours on the market. These chorizo flavour ones had a bit of a kick to them.
Jordans Muesli - £2.79 - I love the Jordans range and eat the cereals regularly, I have had the muesli before and it's a great breakfast option, served with milk or yoghurt.
Fruit Pastille Infusions - £1.29 - We really enjoyed these flavour combos, they tasted really different to the usual pastilles. We all loved the raspberry and pomegranate flavour.
Balsen Choco Leibniz - 40p - Another love in our house is the Bahlsen range, there isn't many we haven't tried. I loved that they sent 4 packets, enough for a pack for each child
Brookside Acai & Blueberry - £3.40 - I really enjoyed the chocolate blueberry & acai berry bites. They are quite high in calories but really tasty.
*************************************
What do you think of the contents? This month's contents retails for around £27, so you are getting more than your monies worth in the box. There were 18 items from 13 different brands so a good variety. Want to try Degustabox yourself? You can get a massive £6 off your first box by using code BLDEG15 at the checkout.

The A-Z Of Autism - M Is For

When Mr L was diagnosed back in 2007 I didn't have a clue what Autism was or even what it meant, 8 years on and 2 more diagnoses its still a puzzle. I have been contemplating doing a blog series with all the words associated with Autism to help other parents and to maybe be a bit of a reference point. So say hello to the A to Z of Autism. Each week will be a different letter, last time was L is for and I got some fab inclusions from other autism parents. This time is M is For.....

Misunderstood
Faith Mummy suggested this one. I have to agree with this one, my children are so misunderstood, by others not by us. There is also a lot of misconception/misunderstanding about autism in general.

Makaton

Rainbows Are Too Beautiful says - it's used by many people who have difficulty communicating and it has been key for our whole family. Check out her post All Kinds Of Communication

Milestones

Rainbows Are Too Beautiful post #MadeUpMilestones is a great read
Gym Bunny Mummy says - definitely milestones for me, both the heartbreak of missing them but also the joy of little breakthroughs too. Take a look at her post  Missing The Milestones
Someone's Mum posted His Own Milestones and it's a fab read.

Mum/Mom/Mummy/Mother

The Sensory Seeker Says - always knows best and is often the one who puts her life on hold, finds the support, the patience, the understanding.

Money

The Sensory Seeker Says - things can be difficult when you have to fill out forms for DLA/PIP and struggle on carers allowance. I agree, I don't think people realise the financial strain of raising a child with additional needs, we can spend over £100 a month replacing clothing that they have chewed through!

Mental Health Issues

Autism Mumma Says - so misunderstood (another M!) unless people have close experience of it

Music

Autism Mumma Says - D gets such pleasure through listening to music, playing her flute and whistling songs, although the listening and whistling are always the same songs and once you've heard it ten times, it can be wearing. For us music can have varying effect, Miss S likes to listen to her type of music, but if something comes on and she doesn't like it she goes into full meltdown mode.

Mine

Autism Mumma Says - as in not sharing, which causes issues. We have massive issues with this, the children are really protective over their things and hate others touching it!

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse

Mother Geek Says -  It's on for literally 20 hours a day here. It's the only thing that keeps Sam calm. Send booze! Haha, I can so relate, we have to watch Virgin on demand on a loop constantly!

Melatonin

Autism Mumma Says - without it my T and D wouldn't sleep. We have been on and off melatonin for the best part fo the last 10 years. Mr L doesn't have it all anymore, Miss S is still on the tablet form called Circadin and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't .

Meditation

The Sensory Seeker Says - helping to switch the brain from one processing system to another.

Me Time
Being a parent is hard work, being a special needs parent is that bit trickier. Be kind to yourself, make a little me time, even if its only 1 hour a week. You need to be able to switch off and think of no one but yourself.

Motor Skills
Some children wth autism have poor/delayed motor skills. Mr L is 12 and still cannot ride a bike and tie his shoe laces. He says it's too much for his brain to think about at the same time.

Are there any other M's you can think of that could be added? If so do leave them all below in the comments. I will be back again soon with the next post, which will be N is for.......

#DressYourHeadUp With Energizer

Each year, Energizer runs a 'Dress Your Head Up' stall at Bestival, encouraging families to stay safe with head torches, but giving them great materials to decorate them. If you hop on over to Instagram/Twitter and type #DressYourHeadUp you will see some of the fab creations being made! The team over at Energizer sent us over a lovely box of craft items, including some headlamps so we could dress our heads up from home.
Our box had enough headlamps for everyone to have a go and all sorts of crafty bits to add to it. The bands are adjustable so 1 size fits all, the lights are even pre loaded with energizer batteries, so you know they will last.

The children had lots of fun being creative and making their own design for their headlamps. It was a geat way to spend a few hours in the afternoon, while it was raining outside. Mr C went a bit ott on the glitter glue, but luckily I managed to wipe it off before it dried in!!
What do you think of our creations? I think you really see how individual they all are! Miss S went for the moons and stars, Miss G went for the minimalist approach, Mr C went for some feathers and pom poms and Mr RTR went all out with a full-on feather headdress!

CraZsand Space Play Set

We love sand in our house, well I say we, but I actually mean the children love sand! I hate it LOL My gang are all about sensory fun toys and sand offers multi-sensory fun for all. We were sent the fab CraZsand Space Play Set for review from Character Options, priced at £17.99
Out of this world Glow-in-the-Dark Sand! Cra-Z-Sand is an amazing mess free, mouldable sand- perfect for playing indoors or out. It's fun to shape it, you can feel it move and watch it flow and it never dries out! You can play with again and again! The set comes with 2 spaceship moulds, spaceman mould, alien mould, a sand roller and 3 bags of sand in yellow, blue and beige. All is stored neatly on the grey high-lipped sand tray.
The children really liked the texture of this sand, it's really mouldable. It has a slightly damp texture to it so its holds together well. The sand packs really easily into the moulds and with just a tap comes out fully formed as the shape you intended it to be. You can't pick up your moulded makes, they just crumble if you try, this doesn't bother the children, they like to mould them, crush them and remake. They enjoyed sing the roller, one end is a boot shape and makes boot print in the sand and the other end makes tracks. Once the sand is all mixed together you obviously can't separate it, so you end up with a mass of green coloured sand. So you only get the multi coloured play effect on the first go. The sand is completely reusable, so you do get lots of play opportunity from the set. The sand will never dry out and continue to remould so it is really good value for money. The children love it and it gets a big thumbs up from them.

My Name Labels Review

I have 4 children all in school, which mean we have a lot of uniforms in our house! A few of the children are also in similar sizes which makes things confusing. You then have to factor in that stuff gets lost at school and before you know it you are spending a fortune on replacement uniform pieces! This makes name labels a must for us, My Name Label have sent us their starter pack for Cody, my youngest who is most likely to loose his bits and pieces.
If you are looking for a small pack to get you started this is the pack you need. A little bit of everything and you can simply top up on the things you find you use most. Included in the pack are 20 big stickers, 20 small stickers, 20 mini stickers, 3 pairs shoe labels (plus protective overlays) and 1 bag tag. When you design these you have the choice of what colour you want the tag to be, what character you want putting on them and what writing style you would like. You can be as creative as you want or maybe include your children's favourite thing. Also included are 25 standard iron-on clothing labels and 20 mini iron-on clothing labels in white, with navy blue lettering.
I tried one of the large stick on labels on his water bottle. It was easy to apply just peel off and apply to your clean dry surface. The water bottle has now been washed and dried and the label is still stuck fast to the front of the bottle.
At the beginning of the year, the children are sent home with all sorts of planners and school books, so the stick on lables are perfect to save me handwriting his name onto everything when it does come home!
I loved the shoe labels, I have never had shoe labels before! They fit neatly in the heel of your child shoes and you have enough stickers for 4 pairs of shoes. You also get a sheet of clear stickers, these go over the top of the shoe tickers once you have applied them.
The bag tag is made from plastic card and a really nice size. It's ideal for Cody's book bag. It has an elastic on that you use to attach to whatever you want. You could also use it to out inside your children's coat on the hanging peg!
The iron on labels are perfect for all of his school uniform, we have jumpers, shirts, pe kit and trouser all on its way. You need to label every single piece of clothing in year 1, they do pe twice a week and I can guarantee there will be a few wrong jumpers sent home along the way. But a least with these labels on we will get them back. In the pack there is also a peice of white tissue style paper, this is used when applying your iron on labels. You place your label, cover it with the rice paper and then iron over and the label sticks!
*************************
No matter what your label needs My Name Labels have a pack to suit you, they offer iron in labels, stick on labels, shoe labels, bag tags, address labels and combination packs starting from just £16. You can see them all via the clickable link above.

#GoJettersGo After Party

We had so much fun yesterday at the #GoJettersGo twitter party. It was great to see so many of you there joining in the fun. Well done to all of you who won some great prizes! Our gang had lots of fun playing the games we were sent to take part. We played weather bingo, place the Go Jetter in the Jet Pad and even got a sneaky peak at the Go Jetters DVD.
Our party box arrived last week and we have been trying out all the toys in the box and we would like to share with you what we thought of each. The Go Jetters toy range is available from Fisher-Price and sold at Argos, Smyths Toys & The Entertainer.
Go Jetters Jet Pad - £39.99The Jet Pad HQ playset from Fisherprice includes rolling wheels and is loaded with features like a slide, a hidden room where special click- ons (exclusive to this playset) are stored, plus a secret hangar room! Best of all, the Go Jetters will always be ready for the next adventure with the special projection feature. As the playset is opened, the projector flips to project an image on the control panel screen. Images include iconic landmarks as seen on the show, both glitched and un-glitched.
The children loved the Jet Pad playset, it's perfect for acting out all your Go Jetters play stories. They loved all the features and the Kyan figure that came with the playset. The really enjoyed making their figures go down the slide and up the ladder. The projection didn't seem to work on any of our walls, but it is really sunny at the moment. In dark light the projection works well on the inside of the Jetpad, the children liked switching the dial and seeing the different places. The set is extremely well made and provides lots of opportunity for imaginative play. It gets a big thumbs up from my gang!
Vroomster - £24.99 - The vroomster features lights and sounds, rolling wheels and includes a Kyan figure with posable arms.  Pull out the side boosters for figures to peg onto and ride outside. Close the dome and press the go jetters star logo button for a head's up display illumination feature!
As you can see the little ones loved making the vroomster fly in the sky. We were able to seat 2 of our go jetters figures into the vroomster and take them on a flight. The light and sound action are really good and they loved hearing the sounds and phrases. The vroomster is made of really chunky plastic and looks like it will withstand some bumps and knocks.
Glitch + Grimbler - £14.99Join Grandmaster Glitch and his rusty old ship, the Grimbler, on his mischievous adventures. Glitch’s signature moustache is mimicked on the Grimbler and pops in and out as you roll the ship along! What is playtime with the Go Jetters without a Grandmaster Glitch to defeat? Complete your Go Jetters collection with this villainous trouble-maker.
The children loved the fact that when you push the grimbler, Glitchs moustache pops in and out as you push the grimbler over the floor. It makes a great addition to the Jet Pad playset for more play opportunity. Like the rest of the range, it's really brightly coloured and eye catching. The visor of the grimbler slides open and closed very easily.
Foz Giant - £14.99 -  Foz has super intelligence and can crack the code to any of Grandmaster Glitch’s plans! He’s a master strategist, mathematician, and geography expert who’s always got the answers. Foz is a key member of the intrepid team of international heroes known as the Go Jetters, and now you can relive his adventures and create new ones with this action-packed figure complete with his G.O. Giant suit with special features. Just place Foz into the suit, press the button and watch the suit pop up to a taller height! Foz’s mighty G.O. Giant click-on action suit has arms that can be moved up and down, claw hands that can hold objects and other figures, and it can be rolled along to his destination. Insert an energy bolt into the suit’s right arm, press the button and launch the bolt! Includes two energy bolt projectiles. G.O. Giant suit works with any Go Jetters figure
Mr C really enjoyed clicking Foz in and out of his giant suit and most of all shooting his lightning bolts. He liked to mix it up a bit and put some of the other Go Jetters figures in the giant suit. You press the suit down and there is a button on the side that makes him bigger. The button on his arm is what you use to shoot the lightning bolts.
Weather Blaster - £9.99 'Un-glitch' landmarks with the Go Jetters and their G.O. Force Weather Blaster. It's got everything you need to set things right! Just load the click-on, pull back the handle and launch away! With five discs included, the world's in safe hands when you've got the Go Jetters Weather Blaster by your side! As you can see from the above pictures the kids had a blast with this toy. They loved shooting the discs across the room, it is a great toy for burning off some excess energy!
Action Figures - £6.99 eachAction figures have poseable arms and click on accessory pieces. The click-on features can either be clicked onto figures or figured clicked into click-ons. The figures are perfect for extending play opportunities with the playsets. It's guaranteed that your child will want to have all 4 of the Go Jetters in their collection.
**************************************
We had a fab time at the party and have loved playing with the Go Jetters toy range, I am sure they will be well played with in the future. They are all sturdy, well made and sure to spike your Go Jetters fans imagination.

Brita Fill& Go Bottle Review

I drink a lot of bottled water, there is always a bottle in my handbag for a drink on the go. I am not a huge fan of the water that comes out of our tap, it has a strange taste.I am also due to start college in September so want to be able to take a drink with me, I will be there 2 full days a week, so I can't take a bag full of water! Brita have a fab fill and go water bottle that will revolutionise the way you drink water and they have sent me 1 to try out and it's going to be perfect come September.
BRITA Fill&Go is based on tried and tested BRITA quality. It actually filters the water while you drink, removing substances that impair smell and taste. And, because it can be refilled with fresh tap water at any time, you can enjoy delicious water anywhere – for only a few pence per litre. The activated carbon BRITA Fill&Go Filter Disc is integrated in the lid, out of sight. All you have to do is: Soak the BRITA Fill&Go Filter Disc prior to first use. This will make it much easier for you to drink through. Replace the Filter Disc once a week. And, for great taste and optimal quality, change the water in your Fill&Go bottle every day. I have been filling one at least 6 times a day, it makes my tap water taste so much better, you really can see the difference too!
The bottle comes with 4 filters in the box, so it's enough to get you started for 4 weeks worth of fresh drinking water. I really like the one handed opening lip, you just flip it open with your thumb, once open the lid is far enough open not to hit you in the face when drinking. You can drink through the straw and keep the bottle upright, or remove the straw and use it like a sports bottle. The BRITA Fill&Go has encouraged me to drink more water and stop wasting money on bottled water. It's completely leak proof so I can take it with me to college and not worry about it leaking all over my work. I can then fill in up from the college fountain and keep drinking. Even buying replacement filters compared to buying bottles of water I am saving each momth. The BRITA fill and go bottle is priced at £14.99 and available to buy online at BRITA.

Magic Twirl Mim-Mim Plush

My 2 younger children love to watch Kate & Mim-Mim, they can often be seen spinning around in the living room saying the Mim-Mim chant for the show, hoping to end somewhere magical. They were so happy when the Magic Twirl Mim-Mim Plush from Flair arrived for review.
Mim-Mim is just like a big teddy bear, he has poseable ears and magic hands! He is super soft and really cuddly and just like Mim-Mim from the tv show. When your children hold both of his hands it activates the mimiloo song and they can twirl around just like Kate does in the tv show. When you press Mim-Mim tummy you will hear 1 of 7 phrases, press his tummy to hear each one. His phrases are -
  • Look at me, I'm Super Mim
  • Jumping Jellybeans
  • Hugs always make me happy
  • I'm so happy
  • Yay!
  • Wowee Wow
  • I love being purple
It turned out the biggest fan of Mim-Mim was Mr C! He just loved cuddling his super soft body. He easily found the pressure point in Mim-Mims tummy to make him speak and loved hearing him talk, his favourite was the "Wowee Wow" phrase. He got a little frustrated with the mimiloo chant as it just doesn't go on long enough, he didn't even get to turn in a full circle before the chant starts again. This didn't put him off though and he still loved playing with the toy. He gets a thumbs up from us and he is suitable for ages 3+, so he's an ideal gift for your younger Kate & Mim-Mim fans. The  Magic Twirl Mim-Mim plush retails at £29.99 and available to buy via the clickable link above.

#BackToSchool With Case Logic

Now Mr L is in high school he has to carry all kinds of kits with him on different days. Its Pe 1 day, science the next and then you have all the folders, texts books and pens. A good rucksack is a must, it needs to be hardwearing and have good supportive straps.
The LoDo collection is designed to be city-chic. From the urban runway to the campus, Case Logic’s LoDo daypacks help you run your academic life seamlessly.  The LoDo backpack is a contemporary design and relavant features combine to deliver a stylish laptop backpack perfect for work, school or travel. We have the stunning grey color and it is also availble in navy & petrol green. I love the little bits of detail on the bag from the leather zip covers and magnetic flaps on the front. The Lodo collection is available in a few styles with priced starting from about £59.99.
The medium style daypack securely stores a 15’’ laptop and 10.1’’ tablet with internal and external accessory compartments. Its genuine leather bottom, front magnetic closures, padded back panel and shoulder straps allow for a stylish and comfortable carry – perfect for those bulky books. The side pocket is perfect for storing Mr L's water bottle on PE day. The bag is roomy enough to fit his school laptop in, his pencil case and his full PE kit. The many compartments inside the bag are really handy for storing homework assignments in. The mesh pocket is great for storing pens, pencils, money and ID cards in.
Mr L says the bag fits really comfortably, the shoulder straps are really comfortable and make wearing the bag really easy. The big chunky straps and wide back ensure the weight inside the rucksack is evenly distributed on your back. The 2 tone straps look really nice and blend really well with the design of the rucksack. He really likes the zip top opening, as it once unzipped it opens into a square shape, this makes getting his laptop in easier. We both agree this is the perfect bag for him and he is going to love using it in September when school starts again.
