The #SlimFastChallenge

For the past 2 weeks I have been taking part in the SlimFast challenge, and a challenge it has been!!
I'm not the worlds best 'dieter' and as soon as you put the word diet on something I revolt against it. But I have tried my best with this plan and succeeded in completing the whole 2 weeks.
I have been doing the 321 plan with SlimFast. A shake for breakfast, a bar for lunch, a 600 calorie dinner and 3 snacks. Now I don't eat a lot of food, my problem  is I eat at the wrong times and eat all the wrong foods. My initial thoughts where that the plan would help me get into the swing of eating frequently and at regular times. I usually skip breakfast and sometimes lunch, this leads to a large dinner and lots of snacking after dinner.
In have really struggled staying on track and have strayed off plan a few times. Miraculously I still managed a loss both weeks, more about that at the end of the post.
I enjoyed the milkshakes, I wasn't expecting them to be so thick and creamy. Even the powdered chocolate shake. You have to use skimmed milk and even then it's still creamy. There are some lovely flavours available, some are incredibly sweet, especially strawberry. It wasn't a problem for me though as I have a sweet tooth, others may find them too sweet for their taste. My favourite is definitely the banana.
The snack bar option was ideal for me to chuck into my bag, there are times when I am straight out after school run. This means I either miss lunch or end up grabbing a sandwich whilst I'm out, the fat content of food on the go isn't the greatest! I got 3 types of bar chocolate crunch, chocolate peanut and summer berry, I found the summer berry to have an odd taste to it and really didn't like it. My favourite was the chocolate peanut bar.
As part of the plan you are allowed 3 snacks, these can be SlimFast snacks, or snacks of your own that are less than 100 calories. I have been having 1 snack between breakfast and lunch and saving the other 2 for an after tea snack. After tea and before bed is a big trigger for me and the snacks have really helped with that.
The first week of the trial I managed a 4lb loss, that included straying from plan twice, the second week I had a loss of 2lbs. I found it incredibly difficult the second week as the food just got to samey for me. The other problem I had with the plan is that I didn't feel like I was eating enough to sustain myself. The calorie content is all there, but its just not real food (apart from your evening meal), so I felt I was depriving myself. If I was to continue with this plan I would cost me around £25 a week to buy all the meal replacement items, thats on top of my normal food bill. With a bit of time and meal planning I could probably construct a plan that fits within my normal shopping budget and it would be 3 full meals a day and not meal replacement. The SlimFast plan just isn't cost effective for me, it has however made me realise what I eat, how much I eat and what times I should eat. For an easy alternative its really great, its all there apart from your evening meal, so I can see the positives and negatives of the plan.

Preparing for a party

Next month Miss S is going to be turning 7, scary it seems she was only just born! As her birthday is a summertime one we always throw a party and hire a bouncy castle. I was given to opportunity to review a party set from Partybags and Supplies for Miss S's upcoming party, so headed over to the website for a nosey around. They are a one stop shop for everything you may need for your little ones celebration, the website is nice and bright and very easy to navigate using catagories. After a good browse I decided on the Despicable Me Minions Set priced at £22.
The set has enough place settings for 8 party guests, so maybe a little expensive if you have lots of guests, but perfect for our small family gathering at home. You also get a party table cloth and pre filled goodie bags all in the same minions design.
The party plates are good quality and not flimsy like some sets I have got in the past, the same can be said for the cups they are really good cardboard quality. The tablecloth is quite large and its wipeable so you could get a few uses out of it if you wanted to. The napkins are double ply so ideal for wrapping birthday cake in to take home. It looks great set out together, I just need to grab some decorations to complete the party look.
The party bags are again in the same fab design and contain a minion blower, minion stickers, vimto popping candy and mini unpoppable bubbles. There is plenty of room for any other party goodies of your own. As with with all the items in this kit the bags are great quality. If your little one isn't a Despicable Me fan they offer a wide range of character options like Peppa Pig, Mickey Mouse and My Little Pony. We love our set and I can't wait to use it for Miss S's birthday party.

Oxo Liquiseal Travel Mug - Perfect For Fathers Day

I have the perfect product for you if you have a working Dad who travels or just a Dad who loves a big cup of coffee in the morning. The Oxo Liquiseal Travel Mug priced at £12 is the one for him.
The mug contains 3 silicone seals to ensure it truly is non spill. It holds a massive 14 ounces of liquid, so great for the morning commute. It has a really clever one click opening system, simply press the button on top and it clicks open the drinking valve, press again and it securely closes.
The stainless steel double walled cup and vacuum insulation it keeps your drink hot for hours. Of course it's not just for hot drinks, it will keep your cold drinks cold to, so again great for the summer weather that we may get.
Worth a mention is that this is a hand wash only item and not suitable for microwave or dishwasher use. Thanks to all the moulded fused pieces it's really easy to clean. I think the price tag is fair for a cup as good as this.
Mr RTR has been putting the cup through its paces last week during school run and out and about. He filled it at 8.10am and whe he got home at 9.20am the coffee was still piping hot. He says he likes the blue soft silicone grip as it makes it easier to hold. He has literally used it veryday since he got it and gives it a big thumbs up. He says its really handy for him as a Dad of 4 as it mean he gets to drink a hot brew!

Chill factor Drinks Bottle

With the warmer weather gradually getting more frequent we all find ourselves heading to the fridge for a nice cold drink. We have a water filter on our fridge but it doesn't make the water ice cold. I have been sent a fab new gadget to have a go of, well the its for the children really but I have been having a go of it to!
The ChillFactor drinks bottle does exactly what it says on the label and makes your drinks ice cold in seconds. Priced at £12.99 and available in pink and blue its already become my summer must have item, my only grumble being is that I have to wait 6 hour between uses to refreeze the water bag.
The drinks bottle has 4 piece the water bag, lid, bottle and stopper. The lid has to options a sip spout and a slurp spout. I prefer the slurp spout as you get more out, I found you had to suck quite hard to get any liquid out of the sipper. Both the lids are spill proof, I have turned it upside down and given it a good shake and not a drop came out.
You have to take the inner water sleeve and place it in the freezer for a around 6 hours to set. Once its set you insert into the cup holder and place the stopper on, add your beverage of choice (not carbonated) and screw the lid on. You will see the colour start to change instantly from pink to purple, give the cup a squeeze and your drink is ready.
The drinks bottle has the capacity to hold 600ml of fluid and you will know when its time to re freeze your pouch as the bottle slowly turns pink again. The drinks bottle is made of really soft silicone so its really nice to hold and gives good grip. Its great for hot summer days and would also be perfect for taking to the gym for a nice cold drink after a work out.

Half Term Hell Courtesy Of Miss S

I feel as if I am going a little bit crazy right now! Its only been 2 full days of the half term holidays and I am more than ready for my little madame to go back to school!
She is not a happy bunny, and she is letting us all know about it.
The first casualty was my beloved HP chromebook. Whilst in a rage, about what I don't know as she couldn't tell me, she unexpectedly picked it up and threw it across the room. The screen is completely shattered and its the only piece of tech in the whole house that isn't covered by the insurance!
The second casualty was the poor Tivo remote, again caused by her raging, she threw it across the room and it fell to pieces. Its clicked back together but the red light is constantly on and not all the buttons work.
The third casualty is my beautiful new wallpaper in the hallway, it has already taken a few beating from her, but I have  been able to patch them up. No such luck this time, she has done a right number on it and torn a big piece off the main wall.
The fourth, fifth and sixth casualties are here poor brothers. They have been kicked, pushed, pinched and screamed at and I think they have had enough!
I can't say I blame them to be honest, she has been hard work. Mr D said to me today " Can't she just go live somewhere else"
The trouble with Miss S is she isn't in to co operative play and is very much own agenda. This makes entertaining her very difficult. In all honesty I think she is bored, but doesn't want me to do anything to relieve her boredom.
Thankfully her school are only off for one week and not two so she is back in school on Monday. I fond out last week that her short breaks funding has been approved for this year, so I am going to get her into a provision over the summer holidays to make things a little easier for her. She gets herself so frustrated that she gets tired from it all. The only bonus of this is it means she sleeps better at night!
We are just riding the rapids of her moods as best we can, whilst trying to protect the boys from her backlash, she is keeping us on out toes that's for sure. I am focusing on the fact that in 6 days time myself and Dave fly off to Lanzarote for our annual week long respite holiday. We always book it in for the week after whit holidays, its usually needed after the carnage of half term.
No more so than this year!!

    Lizzie Heart Playset

Springtime is an epic time to start a new chapter at Ever After High and straight from the new release Spring Unsprung, it also means the start of a new season for the Spring Fairest. A spellebration of renewal and creativity of the changing of winter into Spring! Each year, a fableous fair is raised at Ever After High, where the girls get to shown off their most spellbinding outfits. Follow the teenage sons and daughters of famous fairytale and see whether or not they follow in their parents fabled footsteps.
We have been sent The Lizzie Heart playset priced at £46.99 available from Mattel. Lizzie is the daughter of the Queen of Hearts and she likes to embrace her pre written life. From the outside the set looks like a boom and even have a bookmark hanging over the side.
When you open up the book you are inside Lizzie's dorm room in its black and red splendour. Lizzie comes with some great accessories, a lovely ring for you to wear, a handbag, a jewellery box and a of course a queen of hearts card deck. There is a mirror and a pull out table, the walls are all decorated. There is a clamp for Lizzie to click into for storage.
Lizzie herself is exceptionally stylish with her gold cuff, red funky boots and ornate choker necklace. She is instantly recognisable due to the red heart around her left eye.
Miss K put the playset through its paces, as Miss S was at school and the box caught her eye. The set is aimed at 6+ which is due to the small parts. It's visually appealing and Miss K was happy to play for ages with it. All the dolls limbs are fully possible and her accessories removable. Miss K loves the big red rose ring and brushing Lizzie's shiny hair. It's a great sensory toy due to all the different colours and different textures of the clothing and accessories. So I know Miss S will also love playing with Lizzie to. Make sure you keep your eyes on the blog next week for another fab Ever After High review.

Lazy Peanut Butter and Jam Muffins

I love to bake and the children certainly love a nice muffin every now and then. But just sometimes I cant be bothered to get the stand mixer out and have to clean it all afterwards, we don't have a dishwasher so its left to me to scrub it down after the baking is all done.
A delivery from Oxo last week meant I needed to get my bake on to try out some of the great baking gadgets for me to try out.
I am a big fan of the Oxo childrens range but I am a newbie when it comes to the Oxo home range and I'm excited to discover more. I have been sent the Bakers Dusting Wand rrp £10 and the Cupcake Corer rrp £6. I decided it was a Lazy Peanut Butter and Jam Muffin day, I shouldn't really call it a recipe as its a bit of a cheat, but its ideal if you only have 5 spare minutes in between the wave of school runs.
All you need is a packet of simple sponge mix, eggs, jam and either peanut butter or our favourite the Peanut Hottie powdered drink. Whip up your sponge mix and add 2 heaped tablespoons of peanut hottie or peanut butter and mix in. Divide into cake cases and bake in oven for about 15 minutes, and the beauty of this 'recipe' is all you need is a bowl and a spoon! minimal dishes.
Once the muffins are ready leave them to cool for a good 20 minutes so they are cool all the way through. This is where the cupcake corer comes in and I love how easy it is to use, after trying and failing previously to do some myself this is an ingenious invention. Its only little and fits lovely into the palm of your hand. Simple place it over the middle of your muffin and slowly but firmly push it down, this makes a circular hole is your cupcake and as you remove the device the middle of the cupcake is inside, you simply push the plunger down and it pops out the middle of your cupcake. It made short work out of hollowing out the 12 muffins in seconds, all the middle came out whole to, so I was able to slice them in half to make them into angel wings.
Next part is to pop a blob of jam inside each muffin and a blog of squirty cream (if you have the time you can go that extra mile and whip up some butter cream or buy some pre made) but squirty is ideal if they are being eaten straight away, as they do in this house of 6 people!
I now had the chance to use my new swanky bakers duster! I always make such a mess when dusting my cakes and there is no minimal mess way to do it from a standard shaker, try as you might it gets everywhere! The duster is stainless steel so built to last and it has a handy twister at the end of the handle which opens and closes the duster. Scoop you icing sugar into the reservoir and twist the end to close it. Flip it over and dust away, I love it I am in dusting heaven.
SO there you have lazy peanut butter and jam muffins, made even easier with the help of these Oxo products. You can see them and lots more on the Oxo UK Website.

    Degustabox April

The end of April meant another Degustabox, however it was little bit special as it was an International themed box with items from around the world. I look forward to my Degustabox each month and love opening it and seeing what inside. For anyone who doesn't know what Degustabox is you get between 9 and 14 items per month in a surprise parcel priced at just £12.99. If you fancy trying one yourself you can use the discount code TTIBM for £3 of the cost of your first box.
As I always do I have done a unboxing video over on my YouTube channel to see whats inside. It was a jam packed box this month with something for the whole family!

This months box contained 17 items from 11 brands, bear in mind as a blogger I am sent the items from both the alcohol box and the non alcohol box which is why my box has 17 items. As always I have broken the box down into beverages, snacks and cooking items.
I have heard of Kingfisher before but I have never tried it, it had a bit of a bitter taste at the end for me but Dave really enjoyed the taste. A bottle retails at £2 per bottle and is India's number one selling beer. I have never heard of Wonjo which is a fresh ginger root drink, it didn't taste great and looked like really diluted vimto. I have had Scheckters Organic energy in a previous box and I really enjoy the taste. It retails at £1.35 a can which is a little pricey for a drink, but it is a natural energy drink.
The IdrinQ drink was enjoyed by Dave again, who will give anything a go, he seemed to enjoy it as he drank both cans. The cans retail at £1.49 and are billed as a new generation drink to help you think smarter. I love a good cuppa and I really enjoyed the Barrys Tea, an Irish company since 1901, they have spent years honing the gold blend flavour, priced at £1.75 they make a good brew.
I was really impressed with the snack selection this month as where the children! The debeukelaer cookies went down a storm, priced at £2 for 4 cookies in a box they are a little bit of heaven. Big chunky cookies with a creamy cookie centre. The Nandos crisp had a real kick to them even the Peri Salted one, the spicy chicken where my bog favourite, priced at 69p per bag, I would definitely buy them again. My children are huge Kinder fans and where doing cartwheels to see choco-bons and the mini cereal kinder in the box. They retail at £1.55 per bag but are a good rice when you want o share between 4 children and cheaper than buying them a kinder egg each.
We are big pasta eaters so the addition of the cirio items where a welcome addition, I really liked the individual tomato puree pots and the filet tomato will be a great addition to my spag bol, retailing at £1.69 and £1.20. I have tried the Veetee in a previous box and don't mind a good microwave rice, these are both new flavours to me though and the smelt so fragrant when I cooked them, they retail at £1.49 and are worth the spent as the portions are fab to. My Dave loves a good curry and its usually a jar threw on top of some chicken as I'm not a fan, so he loved these Schwartz recipe mix sachets. They are really simple to use and you just add your meat, priced at £1.08 there fab cupboard staples.

Make sure you look out for next months box coming soon and don't forget to use the discount code above if you want to give it a go yourself.

Ugglys Pets Shop Dirty Dog Wash

The Ugglys Pet Shop Dirty Dog Wash from Character Online was right up my boys street as soon as I saw it! As owners of the Ugglys Belcher the Dog which they find hilarious they have been eager to add to the gross collection. Last week their luck was in and they received the Dirty Dog Wash and 2 of the figures packs for review.
Before the wrapper was even off the dog wash the boys wanted to unbox the figures! If you have younger children you may know what big business unboxing surprise items is! The figure barrels are available for just £2.99 which is a good price when you are getting 2 Ugglys inside.
My boys loved the barrels with the 2 surprise Ugglys inside, you also get a fab tick list so you can mark off what you have and what you need. Great if you have friends who collect also and you can swap out your doubles. I think a LOT of pocket money is going to be spent on the surprise barrels.
The dog wash van is particularly grossly impressive and boasts over 30 gross sounds as you push it along the ground. The van comes with its own exclusive Slobby Saint Bernard Uggly, so even if you don't buy the barrels they have someone to play with straight away. The Dirty Dog Wash is priced at £19.99 and aimed at children aged 5 and over.
The wheels are fully movable so you can push it back & forward and the roof flips open for easy access to the back dog wash. There are 3 nasty noisy options in the back, the weighing scales, toilet and bath all of which make gross noises when you push the dog on them. The boys thought is was a total hoot and its all I have heard since we got it. The range of fart noises are lengthy!
If you have got boys fond of all things gross then this is the toys for them! You can get this and whole range of other Ugglys toys from the Character Website above.

    I can't get no sleep

This picture sums up my life as an autism parent right at this very moment! For Miss S sleep has always been a huge issues. Even as a baby she just never seemed tired and has the complete inability to switch off. The past few weeks have been a blur of late nights, early mornings and listening to Miss S recite the script of surprise egg videos! Anyone whose children love the videos will know my pain.

Having been on Melatonin for about 18 months we took her off it completely around a year ago. It just wasn't working for her so it seemed pointless to give it to her. She has been back on it for about 3 months now, we felt we had no choice after a stint of 4 days straight of no sleep at all, I'm not exaggerating either she didn't sleep a single bit in 4 whole days. An emergency appointment later and we left with Melatonin again, that night she slept like she had never slept before and actually didn't wake until lunch the next day. The worst thing about her not sleeping is that she has the complete inability to cope with anything as she is soo tired.

Unfortunately she now seems to be immune to the effects of it again and we are experiencing the no sleep stand off again! The above picture was us at 3am this morning, as I write this I still haven't slept, I am passed the point of being tired now. Miss S who also hasn't slept all day is in bed and been asleep since 8pm, I am keeping everything crossed that's how she stays for the night.

I used to work in Manchester Airport and work long long hours so I never thought sleep deprivation would be a problem. It never really has been, but at the moment I'm really suffering, a bit like Skye I have the complete inability to cope with anything. I'm so tired, so emotional, so snappy, I just feel like total crap. I'm trying to soldier through as I know in just 12 days time we get our annual week long respite. Thanks to my wonderful family who step in and come to my house for a whole week and stay with the children, so myself and Dave get to go away for much needed rest and relaxation. By the 3rd day I am usually feeling guilty about wanting and needing a break, I don't think that will be the case this time. Its soo challenging bringing up children with additional needs and we DO deserve this break and I intend to take full advantage of it, thanks only to my wonderful family.

    Monster High Doll - Draculaura

Do you know Monsters High? Well the original Monsters High BFF's (beast friends forever) are back and celebrating their first meeting wearing their original outfits. There are 4 in the collection Clawdeen Wolf, Cleo De Nile, Draculaura and Frankie Stein all priced at £16.99 from Mattel. Miss S is a lucky duck and has been sent one of the collection to take a look at.
Any fan of the show will instantly recognise Draculaura in her signature original outfit. She is the daughter of Dracula and with her pink, black and white outfit she really stands out. She is completely posable and everyone of her limbs moves so you make her look how you really want to. I love that she also comes with her own stand, so when your done playing she can be displayed and not just chucked in the toy box. The attention to detail in the design is superb right down to the perfect eyelashes.
Draculaura is loaded with accessories to a beautiful pink choker, white safety pin earrings and knee length pink boots with black laces. Her outfit matches her hair, white, black and pink with a touch of classy lace for the girly touch.
My little Miss S's eye lit up when she saw Draculaura and she recognised her as a member of Monster High even though its been a few months since she watched it. She loved playing with her pigtails and admiring the pink flashes (Miss S loves pink). She was pleased that she was able to remove all of her clothes easily, Miss S does it to all of her dolls and gets frustrated when she cant get them off. Even Draculaura's long boots slid off easily. All the bright colours means the doll is very visually stimulating which appeals to Miss S, she kept repeating "pretty" so I know she really likes her. I think we will be adding the other 3 dolls to the collection in July for her birthday!

Case App iPhone 6 Tough Case & Discount Code

A few weeks ago my trusty Xperia Z3 died a painful death, thanks to a climbing child and a jar of coffee. Luckily for me I was able to upgrade and am now the owner of a shiny new iPhone 6 and knew I needed to get a case for it asap.
Caseapp allows you to make and create your own custom case or skin for a range of tablet and mobile devices.  Due to the unfortunate accident with my Xperia I decided on the tough case which comes with your hard case with custom design and a silicone lining to cover and protect the sides of the phone and screen. Priced at £22 its a sound investment when you have an expensive mobile you want to protect.
The silicone case fits nicely inside the hard case and its not to bulky looking which I liked. I was apprehensive on ordering that it would make my nice slim phone look to bulky. It completely encases your iPhone and protects it all round.
I chose a picture of my 4 beautiful children to go on the outside of my case. It's one of my favourite pictures of them that my brother took of them last summer. I am really pleased with how the image came out on the case. There is no distortion and the colours have come out really well.
The designing of your case is really simple, upload your image, crop it, rotate it and even add text if you want to. Live editing means you see your case as you are making it so can get it just right. If you cant decide on just 1 image there a lots of collage options available. You can also add cliparts to your design. You can have some great fun designing your case.
I'm really pleased with the entire service and the finished product and I feel better knowing that my phone is protected. The retail price of just £22 is a small price to pay when you think how much it would cost to replace a screen or even the whole phone.
If you would like to grab a case for yourself then I have been given the discount code Rainbows20 for a 20% for the next 2 week only.
